College Basketball Where Are They Now?

  • Now: Tisdale has been battling bone cancer, and had part of his leg amputated in August to fight the disease. He plans to return to his successful musical career in December, as Tisdale has recorded several Top 10 jazz hits during his post-NBA endeavor.

  • Then: Kevin Johnson, Guard, California 1983-87 | Accomplishments: Johnson finished his tenure at Cal in 1987 as the school's leader in assists, steals, and scoring, and was named to the Pac-10 first team in his junior and senior years.

  • Now: After a successful NBA career, Johnson earned a big win in politics on Election Day. Johnson was elected the new mayor of Sacramento.

  • Then: Christian Laettner, Center, Duke 1988-92 | Accomplishments: One of the top players in Duke's illustrious history, Laettner appeared in the Final Four all four years, helping Duke winning the National Championship in 1991 and 1992 as well as the Naismith Award for his outstanding play in 1992.

  • Now: Laettner is part of Blue Devil Ventures, a group that is helping redevelop a section of Durham, N.C. He also is an investor in professional sports teams, as after failing to buy the Memphis Grizzlies, he is part of Major League Soccer's D.C. United ownership group.

  • Then: Ralph Sampson, Center, Virginia 1979-83 | Accomplishments: Sampson was one of the dominant players in college during his tenure, as he won three Naismith Awards for top player in three of his four seasons with the Cavaliers.

  • Now: Sampson ran into legal trouble in 2006, earning a two-month jail sentence for mail fraud and a $300,000 fine for not paying child support. One of his four sons, Ralph Sampson III, is a freshman at the University of Minnesota.

  • Then: Jalen Rose, Guard, Michigan 1991-94 | Accomplishments: Part of Michigan's "Fab Five," Rose helped the Wolverines to two trips to the Final Four, and also was named an All-American two of his three seasons.

  • Now: Rose is the owner of Three Tier Entertainment, Los Angeles-based management and production company. He also is the only member of the "Fab Five" that was not accused of taking large sums of money in the fallout of the Michigan recruiting scandal that rocked the school.

  • Then: Bobby Hurley, Point Guard, Duke 1989-93 | Accomplishments: One of the keys to Duke's back-to-back national championship teams in 1991 and 1992, Hurley was a first-team All-American in 1993.
