  • The Midwest and the Great Lakes will see above-normal snowfall, especially during January and February, the almanac predicts. Above, ice plates pile up on the shoreline of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minn., in 2004.

  • An unusually wet or snowy February is in store for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, the almanac says. Here, ice coats trees on a road in Pownal, Maine.

  • February could bring drier than usual weather for the typically wet Pacific Northwest, according to the almanac. In this photo, a man works in a hop field in Granger, Wash.

  • When summer 2009 rolls around, most of the country will see near-normal temperatures, but much of the Southwest should prepare for unusually hot weather in June and July, the almanac advises. Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas will face intense July heat and humidity, it says. Here, a brother and sister cool off in Key Biscayne, Fla. (Sources: AP, Farmers' Almanac)
